Our story
Aven Counselling was created with the intention of offering therapy that feels calm, relational, and human. After working in a fast-paced community mental health setting, there was a clear desire to create a space where care could move more slowly — grounded in presence, safety, and genuine connection.
The practice is intentionally small, allowing therapy to remain thoughtful, attuned, and responsive to each client’s pace and experience. Here, healing is not rushed or forced, but supported with care and curiosity.
Our Name
Aven Counselling is named after the mountain avens wildflower — known for its quiet strength and ability to grow in barren, high-altitude places. It thrives not because it is pushed, but because it knows how to grow in its own time. This reflects the heart of the work at Aven: creating the conditions for people to return to themselves and grow in ways that feel natural, steady, and true.
It also reflects the people who find their way here. Many clients come to therapy having endured change, loss, overwhelm, or long periods of simply getting through. Like the mountain avens, there is often a resilience already present — even if it doesn’t yet feel visible. Our work honours that strength, offering space for it to take root, soften, and grow.
What We Offer
-
Individual Therapy
Individual counselling is a space just for you — a place to slow down, feel supported, and explore what’s been weighing on you. Together, we’ll gently make sense of your experiences, patterns, and emotions at a pace that feels right. Sessions are collaborative, relational, and trauma-informed, with care shaped around your unique needs, goals, and capacity.
Currently available virtually across BC & Canada (unregulated provinces).
-
Youth Counselling
Youth counselling offers a supportive and non-judgmental space for teens (13+) to talk about what they’re going through — whether that’s big emotions, anxiety, changes at home or school, or feeling overwhelmed. Sessions are developmentally appropriate, relational, and focused on building safety, trust, and emotional understanding, while honouring each young person’s voice and experience.
Currently available virtually across BC & Canada (unregulated provinces).
-
Perinatal Counselling
Perinatal counselling supports individuals and families through fertility challenges, pregnancy, postpartum, and the early years of parenthood. This work recognizes the emotional, physical, and identity shifts that come with becoming — or trying to become — a parent. Sessions offer a gentle, supportive space to process anxiety, overwhelm, grief, birth experiences, and the transition into parenthood, at a pace that feels safe and attuned.
Currently available virtually across BC & Canada (unregulated provinces).
